| THE 15 METRE
FAST INTERVENTION CRAFT
The advanced composite “Fast Intervention Craft” ONUK MRTP15
is the first boat of the Multi Role Tactical Platform (MRTP) family developed
for the increasingly tough requirements of the law enforcement and naval
forces to control the littoral and the coastal waters.
Internally, the advanced machinery systems and arrangement
result in a vessel with greatly enhanced operability, maintainability
and accommodation standards.
PRIMARY ROLES
ONUK MRTP15 Fast Intervention Craft has been designed to carry out a wide
range of littoral and coastal water law enforcement and naval duties,
including:
Search and rescue
Anti smuggling
Pollution control
Anti terrorist protection of the coastal and offshore installations
Surveillance / Covert surveillance
Patrol / Escort / Fast attack craft
Seal insertion-extraction craft
BACKGROUND:
With 18 units in service since 1997 in the Turkish Coast Guard,3 units
in the Turkish Customs and 4 units exported, the "KAAN 15" Class
ONUK MRTP15 is an extremely well proven platform.
PERFORMANCE:
Speed and seakeeping:
Depending on engine/configuration selection, the proven ONUK KO-02 deep
V hull will enable the boat to reach speeds up to 64 knots in calm waters
and above 50 knots in Sea State 3, allowing rapid reaction comparable
to a helicopter, and can be used in confined spots or heavy weathers not
suitable for helicopter operations.
The seakeeping capabilities of the ONUK MRTP15, used intensively by the
Turkish Coast Guard since 1997, are well proven in operation. ONUK MRTP15
has a soft and dry ride in adverse conditions. The steerable Twin Disc
Arneson Surface Drive system provides extreme maneuverability and a very
shallow draught, enhancing the operation in confined waters. ONUK MRTP15
is one of the fastest known platforms of this size with a mission payload
capability in the range of 1,5 tons.
Stability: Intact-Damaged:
Turkish and NATO naval standards have been applied to the ONUK MRTP15
for the intact and damaged stability. ONUK MRTP15 meets the Turkish Navy
and NATO criteria for damaged stability and will remain afloat and upright
with flooding in any single main compartment.
CONSTRUCTION AND COMPONENTS:
ONUK MRTP15 is built in advanced composites to satisfy the very tough
requirements of an intensive professional use together with a long service
life. The benefits of the advanced composite structure are:
WEIGHT REDUCTION
* Improved Performance
* Increased Payload
* Fuel Savings
CORROSION RESISTANCE
*Longer service life
* Maintenance savings
IMPROVED
* Threat avoidance/detection
* Ballistic protection
REDUCED SIGNATURES
* Machinery vibration/acoustic
* Magnetic signature
* Heat signature
The hull and superstructure are constructed in accordance
with the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Type Approval Certificate 416.01. All
boats of the series are delivered with the relevant DNV Certificates.
The helm station and the interiors have been designed in
line with the SAE recommendations for ergonomics to provide the crew with
maximum comfort and minimum fatigue in prolonged use in heavy seas.
Machinery and propulsion
The mechanical components are selected with the intensive professional
use in mind. They offer a high level of reliability, despite the extreme
performance requirements.
The propulsion is by twin MTU 12V183 TE93ECU diesels, Twin
Disc Arneson Surface Drives (ASD12 B1L) and Rolla surface piercing propellers.
Depending on the speed requirements, the ONUK MRTP15 can be equipped with
different components for optimum operational efficiency / price ratio.
MISSION MODULES
ONUK MRTP15 can be equipped with various mission modules depending on
the customer requirements. Despite the size of the platform, these modules
have been integrated with the modularity and reconfigurability in objectives
in mind. Thus, the platform can be reconfigured with different mission
modules, increasing dramatically the operational flexibility and reducing
the costs. The mission modules would be:
Search and rescue equipment
Multi sensor surveillance suite
Multi weapon mounts (Stabilized turret with MG and F&F wire guided
missiles)
SOF (Special Operation Forces) support/SDV (Seal Delivery Vehicle)
